– Office workers ‘risk blood clots’
A New Zealand study has shown that office workers who sit long hours at their desks risk developing potentially fatal blood clots. The study found that about 34% of patients suffering from deep vein thrombosis (DVT) were office workers spending hours at their desk. DVT is more commonly known as the “economy class syndrome”. However, the study has shown that the figures for patients admitted with DVT, who take long haul flights cramped up in economy class, is much lower at 21%. So, do remember to walk around and stretch yourself after every hour or so sitting at your desk at work.
– Stressful event kills brain cells
Don’t stress if you can help it. Otherwise, in a recent study in the UK has shown, it is highly likely that it’ll kill your brain cells in the hippocamus, the part of the brain that processes learning, memory and emotion. Thankfully, stress doesn’t stop the hippocamus region from generating new brain cells, it just means lesser cells are available to process your feelings and emotions. And this might result in depression.
