Just discovered that the drug Viagra has other uses besides its more commonly known use as a drug to treat erectile dysfunction.
According to the BBC News article, Argentine scientists have found that a low doses of the drug together with light therapy helped hamsters recover up to 50% faster from forward shifts in their daily time cycles. However, the research found that it is only effective in one time direction, which is equivalent to flying eastbound.
So, don’t go around popping Viagra pills to overcome jetlag just yet.
P.S.: If you didn’t already know, the drug sildenafil (more popularly known as Viagra) was originally developed by the pharmaceutical company, Pfizer, in hope of treating hypertension and angina. However, they realized that the drug worked much better for erectile dysfunction and changed their focus to that.
